Additional Background Information

Mr. Nafa Khalaf was born in Baghdad, Iraq (The Middle East). Upon completion of his primary schooling there, he began classes at the University of Mosul, Iraq, where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering. While in Iraq Mr. Khalaf assumed many high-ranked engineering positions. He was, for example, the Project Director of an Oil Pipe Line, the Project Manager of major Water Treatment Plants projects in Baghdad, and the (RE) Resident Engineer of Oil Refinery Projects. He also acted as the Technical Consultant for many water related, reservoir and desalination unit projects.

In 1986, Nafa came to Detroit, Michigan, and in 1988 he was granted his Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering from Wayne State University. In the year 2000 Nafa attained his second Master’s Degree in Business Administration, majoring in Project Management from George Washington University.

While in the United States, Nafa began an impressive career in the Water field. In fact, Mr. Khalaf has over 25 years hands-on experience in construction management, design/build concepts and general contractor work, specializing in Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, as well as commercial and industrial structures. His experience covers construction of new water plants, wastewater plants and booster stations, building renovation, project rehabilitation and improvement, and program management.  Additional experience includes oversight of design-build water projects.

In 1988, Nafa was a partner/owner of EBI Detroit. He participated in development of scores of projects in Detroit area. Nafa was the President of EBI until leaving it in the year 2000 to start his own company, Detroit Contracting, Inc. (DCI).  DCI specializes in construction, Design/Build and program management work, primarily for the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department.
